Water Aid Project
We design his project to ensure that everyone despite their status, income or background have access to clean water.
These are some of the challenges we face here in the Gambia. A dry country vulnerable to climate change. Almost 60% of the population don’t have access to clean water. The most affected area is the rural area where most of the children die resulting to diseases.
While in the urban area a lot of the average Gambians have access to clean water from the only water company here in the Gambia (NAWEC). Unfortunately, those under privileged families find it hard to enjoin these opportunities of access to tap water, because there used to be public taps for those under privileged families but this project closed down in 2014 which led to a lot of frustration on how to access clean water and the charges for tap instantiation is expensive for the poor which makes it very challenging for many.
HMD aims at eradicating water scarcity throughout the country. This project is designed specifically for areas that do not have access to water easily or poor sanitation of water source. The project came about when a community within the region was visited. We learnt that the people travel far and pay just to fetch water which is an essential need for human.
We believe clean water is one of the basic necessities every living soul deserves, weather poor or rich. Water which is very vital should be accessible to people easily without much trouble. Currently we have over 7 communities that are benefitting from this project.
If we all join hands more families and communities will be privileged to enjoy the same.
Together with the government, businesses, and individuals, we will make a big difference.
